Banjul, The Gambia, January 30, 2025 - Matarr Saine, President of the Gambia Wrestling Association, along with his executive team, paid a courtesy visit to the newly elected president of the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), Bai Dodou Jallow and his board members on Thursday at Olympic House.

Wrestling Secretary General Queenie Aisha (Aisha Corr) underscored the significance of the gathering, emphasizing the essential role that GNOC plays in supporting the capacity-building efforts of local sports organizations. She articulated the need for collaboration to enhance the development of wrestling in The Gambia.

President Matar Saine elaborated on the critical objectives of their visit to the Olympic House. He expressed a strong commitment to ensuring that local wrestlers have the opportunity to compete in international competitions. To achieve this, he outlined plans for developing a standard wrestling arena, enhancing the training of referees and coaches, and establishing a women’s national wrestling team. He concluded his remarks with a fervent hope to see Gambian wrestlers representing the nation in the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in Senegal 2026.

Commissioner Lamin King Colley, first vice president of GNOC, encouraged the wrestling committee to build a foundation of trust and accountability. He stressed the importance of a committed approach to deliver tangible results, particularly in facilitating local athletes' participation in international events. Additionally, he urged President Saine to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders, including those from opposing camps, to ensure the smooth operation of the wrestling association.

GNOC President Bai Dodou Jallow reinforced this message by urging the newly elected wrestling executives to remain steadfast and focused on the interests of the nation. He highlighted the necessity of encouraging regional wrestlers to foster sports development and emphasized the importance of engaging with the private sector to create more opportunities and resources for wrestling activities in The Gambia.
