Banjul The Gambia, June 16, 2026 -Gambian Olympian and University of Arkansas standout Sanu Jallow-Lockhart delivered a historic performance at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, winning the women’s 800 meters in a stunning collegiate record time of 1:56.85 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on June 13.

Jallow’s remarkable run eclipsed the previous NCAA record of 1:57.73 set by Olympic champion Athing Mu in 2021, making her the fastest collegiate women’s 800m runner in history. Her time also established a new Gambian national record and secured her first NCAA outdoor title.

The race was one of the highlights of the championships, with multiple athletes producing personal best performances. Jallow’s record-breaking victory capped an outstanding season and further cemented her status as one of the world’s premier middle-distance runners.

Since representing The Gambia at the 2024 Olympic Games, Jallow has continued her meteoric rise, setting national records and establishing herself among the elite athletes in collegiate and international athletics.
