Banjul, The Gambia, July 16, 2021- The Honorable minister of Youth and Sport Bakary Y Badgie on Friday presided on the handing over of the Gambia National Flag to Team Gambia as they prepare to jet out to Japan for the delayed olympic games.

At a ceremony held in Banjul Minister Badjie reiterated on his Ministry commitments and willingness to support the development of sport in the Gambia. Badjie urge the athetes to be good ambassador of the land and bring home medal.

The Honorable Minister of Defense and Olympian Shiekh Omar Faye gave an emotional address to Team Gambia.

" I am extremely proud of the phenomenal successes in our sport and I must confess that all this is possible because of the willingness of the athletes and the support from the government through the ministry under the leadership of Minister Bakary Badgie".

On his part the Secretary General of GNOC Abdoulie Jallow highlighted on the readiness of our athletes citing efforts and support the committee did to better prepare them for the event.

Our goal was to have a team sport that will feature at the Olympics but unfortunately beach volleyball missed narrowly on the qualifiers but we will better prepare well for Paris 2024 Jallow stated.

The Chef de Mission for Team Gambia Anthony Tabbal reaffirmed that the team is in top form and all necessary arrangements for their smooth participation and reassured that the team will raise the flag of the Gambia.

At the handing over Minister Bargie announced that government had already paid D600,000 to GNOC for supplementary allowances to the four athletes that will represent the Gambia at the Tokyo Olympics.

The first delegation of the team will jet out on Sunday.
