Banjul The Gambia, February 13, 2025 - The newly elected Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) Executive Board, led by President Mr. Bai Dodou Jallow, paid a courtesy visit to the British High Commission in Banjul on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

The visit, which was part of GNOC’s efforts to strengthen partnerships in sports development, was received by Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Martin Norman, who stepped in for the British High Commissioner to The Gambia, along with his personal assistant, Ms. Elle Boot.

In his opening remarks, President Jallow highlighted the significance of the courtesy call, emphasizing the importance of shared Commonwealth norms and values and how sports diplomacy can further strengthen the bilateral relationship between The Gambia and the United Kingdom. He noted that fostering collaboration in sports would enhance opportunities for Gambian athletes, officials and coaches and uphold the spirit of sports cohesion within the Commonwealth.

The discussions covered several key areas, including:

• Sports Exchange Programs – Opportunities for Gambian athletes and coaches to receive training in the UK.

• Technical Support & Capacity Building – Assistance in sports management, coaching development, and infrastructure enhancement.

• Provision of Sports Equipment – Exploring ways the UK can support Gambian sports federations with equipment.

• Bilateral Collaboration in International Events – Joint efforts in hosting or participating in sporting competitions.

A major topic of discussion was The Gambia’s participation in the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the logistical challenges regarding visa facilitation for athletes and officials.

President Jallow stressed the importance of timely visa issuance to ensure a smooth delegation process. The King’s Relay Torch, which is expected to arrive in Banjul as part of the countdown to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, was also highlighted as a moment of national pride and engagement.

The meeting concluded with a shared vision to enhance sporting opportunities and deepen cooperation between the two nations. Both parties expressed commitment to turning discussions into concrete actions, ensuring that Gambian sports continue to grow through international partnerships.

This visit marks another step forward in GNOC’s mission to enhance Gambian sports through global cooperation, fostering a legacy of excellence for athletes, coaches, and sports administrators.
