Banjul, The Gambia, January 30, 2025 - The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) recently hosted a two day-long retreat last weekend at its headquarters in Bakau. The retreat was dedicated to revisiting the 10-point campaign promise of the newly elected Executive Board, aimed at charting a fresh and ambitious direction for the organization and Gambian sports.

The retreat was led by the GNOC’s 2nd Vice President, Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh, alongside Secretary-General, Mr. Yorro Njie, and Executive Director, Mr. Muhammed K. Janneh. In his opening remarks, Mr. Jammeh highlighted the significant responsibilities ahead, urging members to approach the retreat with focus and dedication.

This event marks a key milestone for the GNOC since the election of its new Executive Board on 23rd November 2024. Under the leadership of President Bai Dodou Jallow, the board is committed to delivering a new era of progress and accountability in Gambian sports.

The retreat features insightful presentations from distinguished experts, including:

• Mr. Jonathan Dygas (ANOCA Finance Director) – Continental Programs for the Quadrennial (2025–2028)

• Mr. Muhammed K. Janneh (GNOC Executive Director) – Olympic Solidarity: World Programs for the Quadrennial (2025–2028)

• Mr. Ezera Tshabangu (Commonwealth Games Federation) – CGF Strategy, Governance Structure, Programs, Games Reset, and Current Initiatives in Africa

• Mr. Bai Madi Ceesay – Guidelines for Authorizing Payments at the GNOC

These sessions gave members a comprehensive understanding of

GNOC’s operational landscape and offered effective governance and financial management strategies.

Following the presentations, GNOC members engaged in a plenary session led by Mr. Bakary K. Jammeh and Mr. Yorro Njie. The session reviewed the 10 strategic points that form the foundation of GNOC’s campaign promises, with a focus on aligning them to the organization’s goals and priorities.

Today’s retreat reflects GNOC’s unwavering commitment to transforming the sports sector in The Gambia. With a clear focus on good governance, financial discipline, and athlete development, the organization is laying a strong foundation for success in the future.
