Banjul, The Gambia, June 29 2025 -  The Gambia’s most decorated Olympian, Gina Mariama Bass, has been unanimously elected as the Chair of the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) Athletes’ Commission (AC) for the 2025–2028 quadrennial.

Bass, a celebrated national hero and multiple-time Olympian sprinter, will lead the Commission alongside Ousman Jobe, an Olympian swimmer, who has been elected as the 1st Vice Chair.

The athletes conducted the elections in accordance with the GNOC AC Constitution.

Under Article 4.1(g), the Vice and the Vice Chair are members of the GNOC Executive Board:

“Two active athletes, elected by the Athletes’ Commission, having taken part in the Olympic Games; however, they must retire from their posts at the latest by the end of the third Olympiad after the last Olympic Games in which they took part.”

Furthermore, both Bass and Jobe will serve as bona fide representatives of Gambian athletes on the GNOC Board and General Assembly, with full voting rights in both bodies.

The final structure of the GNOC Athletes’ Commission Executive Board (2025–2028) is as follows:

• Chair: Gina Mariama Bass (Athletics)

• 1st Vice Chair: Ousman Jobe (Swimming)

• 2nd Vice Chair: Sainey Jawo (Volleyball)

• Secretary General: Yassin Jaal Mboob (Basketball)

• Treasurer: Yankuba Jahateh (Triathlon)

    Members:

Adama Jammeh (Athletics),

Bakary Jarju (Wrestling)

The Secretary General of the GNOC, Mr. Yorro Njie, congratulated the elected executive members, stating:

“We are confident that under Gina’s leadership, the Athletes’ Commission will continue to champion the interests and welfare of Gambian athletes at national and international levels. We look forward to their meaningful contributions to advancing sports in The Gambia.”

The Athletes’ Commission serves as the official voice of athletes within the Olympic Movement, ensuring their representation in decision-making processes and policy development.
