The President of Commonwealth Games Federation trading as "Commonwealth Sports" Dr Donald Rukare had sent his condolence letter to the President of Commonwealth Sports Association of The Gambia Bai Dodou Jallow on the passing of Modou Gamo.

In his letter Dr Rokare wrote " We learnt with shock and sadness earlier today of the passing of Modou Gamo, The Gambia's international Para Powerlifter. Modou was one of the Para Athletes that put The Gambia on world stage. His dedication and teamwork showed at the GAPS camps he attended, as also confirmed by the various messages shared by the GAPS athletes and coaches throughout the day. His smile and positive attitude will be fondly remembered.

Please accept Mr President, on behalf of Commonwealth Sport, our heartfelt condolences to his family, the Gambia CGA, NPC and the Gambia sports fraternity. May his soul Rest in Peace.

We believe without a doubt he is leaving behind a legacy that the CGA will continue to fulfil by working close with the NPC to support other up and coming Para Athletes.

May you find comfort in all the good memories he created for the nation and Gambian sport, by being an exemplary ambassador for not only the paralympic movement but the entire Gambian sports movement, the letter concluded.

Gamo was Gambia's sole para athlete representative at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
