BANJUL, The Gambia, October 5, 2026 — A five-day technical course for cricket coaches has opened in The Gambia, bringing together coaches and key stakeholders as the country continues efforts to strengthen the development of the sport.
The opening ceremony was presided over by First Vice President of the Gambia National Olympic Committee, Commissioner Lamin King Colley, who called for greater attention to the development of coaches and technical personnel.
In his remarks, Commissioner Colley stressed that coaches are central to athlete development and play an important role in building a stronger sporting system.
President of the Gambia Cricket Association, Lamin Fofana, welcomed the initiative, describing the course as an important opportunity for coaches to improve their knowledge and practical skills while supporting the growth of cricket across the country.
Representing the National Sports Council, Babucarr Secka also attended the opening ceremony.
The five-day programme will focus on technical instruction and practical coaching sessions, with participants expected to gain updated knowledge and tools to apply in their respective coaching environments.
The course is part of efforts to improve the standard of cricket coaching and create a stronger pathway for the development of players at grassroots and competitive levels.
