Banjul, The Gambia – March 2, 2024 - A squad of more than 100 athletes and officials will fly Gambia’s flag at 2023 African Games to be held in Accra, Ghana from March 8 to March 23 2024, according to the National Sport Council.
The team will comprise an athletics team, Swimming, Judo, Taekwondo, beach volleyball (male and female), volleyball (male and female), wrestling, and Football (U20). Making it the biggest ever delegation from the Gambia to any games.
The African games, widely refer to as Accra 2023, is an important multi-sport event and the biggest sporting event on the continent of Africa held every four years.
Super star Gina Bass will lead a contingent that seems ready to win medals, as the beach volleyball duo opting to defend their title, they won at the 2019 edition in Rabat.
Judoka Faye Njie, Taekwondo star Alasan Ann, are another top athletes that are ready for the task and the indoor volleyball teams appearing in their first African Games.
The delegation is expected leaves the shores on March 6 and 7 and the opening ceremony is schedule for March 8 2024 at University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
